Choosing a Driving School or Instructor
Learning how to drive can cost a lot of time and money so finding the right driving school or private instructor is important.
We have put together a list of questions that you might want to think about when assessing your options:
- What is the school/instructor’s pass rate?
- For how long has the instructor been teaching people how to drive?
- How long is each lesson and how much do lessons cost?
- Can you get a discount if you book a number of lessons in advance?
- Do you get charged if you cancel a pre-booked lesson?
- How many lessons does the driving school or instructor think is necessary for a learner to pass their test?
- Is the instructor a fully-qualified Approved Driver Instructor (ADI)? ADIs display green, DSA badges in their front windscreens.
- Can you book a trial lesson at a reduced price to see what you think of the instructor?
- What type of cars does the school or instructor train learners in?
- How old is the tuition vehicle?
- Does the tuition vehicle have dual controls?
- Does the tuition vehicle have air bags?
- Will the driving school or instructor provide you with study aids to help you prepare for your theory test?
- Will the instructor pick you up and drop you back at your home address (or other convenient location)?
- Does the instructor smoke in his/her car?
- Has anyone recommended the driving school or instructor to you?
